Equestrian Statue of Takemitsu
Last Modified:9/12/2016

This is one of the biggest equestrian statues in Japan.
The 15th head of Kikuchi clan, Takemitsu built the golden age of the Kikuchi clan welcoming Prince Kanenaga of the Southern Court in the 12th century. Takemitsu wiped out the Northern Court power from Kyushu and was praised for his courage.
This statue of Takemitsu was completed in 1992, and it has been a symbol of Kikuchi since then. Takemitsu is gazing toward Dazaifu (ancient capital of Kyushu) where the Kikuchi clan was once proud of their great prosperity. It is a vibrant statue as if Takemitsu is challenging to fight.
