Authentic and Retro Kikuchi Onsen, Hot Springs

Last Modified:12/28/2016

Your visit won’t be complete without a visit to a Hot spring.

Japan is a volcanic country and has many hot springs. The distinctive feature of the hot spring water in Kikuchi is the milky smoothness like that of moisturizing lotions. Kikuchi’s hot springs are also “Gensen-kake-nagashi” meaning the hot spring water gushes out from underground directly into the bathtub without being diluted, filtered, or with any added chemicals.

Besides warming you up, Kikuchi Onsen Hot Springs are said to be effective for improving health and skin tone, and also effective for fatigue recovery, rheumatism, neuralgia, and more. The water is nicknamed “Kesho no Yu” (hot springs of make up) because of the water quality making your skin smooth and beautiful.

Enjoy the hot spring experience either by staying at hotels or traditional inns. Many traditional inns offer “Rotenburo” open-air bath with the water flowing directly from the hot spring source. You can enjoy the view of greenery in the spring and summer, autumn leaves in the fall, and stars and moon at night. The open-air bath in winter is also a fun experience, too.

Day spas with Onsen and Foot Bath are also worth a try. Free Fooot Baths are available, too. It’s an experience not to be missed. Enjoy the "Authentic and Retro" Kikuchi Hot Spring the way you like.
